Ackerman Family Vineyards was fortunate to source Sangiovese fruit from atop of Atlas Peak AVA from Antica which is at 1,700 feet of elevation. This vineyard and estate is owned by the Italian family Antinori’s who has been in the wine industry since 1385. Sangiovese is one of the first red grapes we harvest, it’s fermented in stainless steel and made with gentler winemaking techniques, shorter pump overs, 3-4 days of cold soaks, fermentation starts soon after which takes anywhere from 10 to 14 days. The wine is then transferred to once use Bordeaux barrels where we aged it for 20 months. The composition of the Alavigna Tosca is 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from our Estate Vineyard.
